The All India Football Federation (AIFF) Player of the Year will try out for the MLS side in September.
Mohun Bagan defender Syed Rahim Nabi is expected to undergo a trial with Major League Soccer side DC United.
Nabi, crowned the All India Football Federation Player of the Year in December, will make the trip to Washington in September should talks between the two parties progress positively after he captured United’s attention.
The 27-year-old is understandably delighted to be handed the opportunity to further his career abroad and could be joined by national team colleagues Nirmal Chhetri and Gourmangi Singh in the United States.
“I have just come to know about it. IMG has informed us and a few of us may be going to the US for trials,” he told Times of India.
“DC United has seen my video clips and apparently that has evoked a lot of interest. It has been a childhood dream to play abroad. I will give my best in the trials so that I can grab a contract,” he said.
It’s thought the club wanted to bring him in immediately but the 27-year-old informed IMG-Reliance, the marketing and commercial partner of the AIFF that he would prefer to go at a later date due to personal reasons.
