The Colts have already moved on from Wayne, and they are not expected to re-sign Nicks, who is still looking for a new team.
Colts head coach Chuck Pagano had high praise for the second-year receiver, who showed flashes of brilliance as a rookie.
“He’s got such a high ceiling and room for improvement. The sky’s the limit for him,” Pagano said.
Moncrief caught 32 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns despite being buried in the depth chart behind T.Y. Hilton, Wayne and Nicks.
Quarterback Andrew Luck also threw frequently to tight ends Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, but Moncrief has the potential to be a deep threat and will be more dangerous with a season of NFL experience under his belt.
The Colts utilize a pass-happy offense, as evidenced by Luck throwing the third-most passes in the NFL with 616.
Although the addition of Frank Gore will give them a more reliable running game, Moncrief is sure to blossom in an offense led by Luck.
