The Pro Bowl saw the NFL experimenting with changes, including using Microsoft tablets to use instant replay. They also made the goal posts four feet narrower.
They also moved the extra point back to the 15-yard line, making it more difficult to make extra points and field goals.
Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri felt the effects of the changes the most by far of any Pro Bowl kicker. He missed two extra point attempts and a field goal attempt.
Vinatieri looked like a completely different kicker with narrower goal posts as he only missed one field goal out of his 31 attempts in the regular season.
The Colts kicker expressed his displeasure with this new potential rule. “Ask a receiver, can we take his gloves off because he’s catching the ball too well? Nobody is going to be overly happy about that,” Vinatieri said to NFL.com.
The fact that a kicker as accurate as Vinatieri struggled this badly is sure to make the NFL seriously ponder making this change permanent though.
