Colts QB Andrew Luck has a few new weapons to try in his first game since the AFC Divisional game against the Patriots in 2014.
The Jets and Colts lock horns in the first official preseason game of the 2014 season. While the Colts have the QB they need but are still looking for the weapons he wants, the Jets have bolstered their offense but still need to figure out if they have their QB of the future. Both teams will be using this game to test out their receiving corps which they augmented in free agency and the draft.
The Colts will most likely use Luck only for a series or two before letting backup Matt Hasselbeck take over and work out the receivers. The Jets will likely give Geno Smith a little more time and let him gel with the struggling receivers, while on defense they will see how much the secondary has improved.
Notable Debuts:
Colts
Hakeem Nicks – the former star receiver for the Giants makes his debut after a season without scoring a TD and an equally rough training camp with the Colts.
Jets
Chris Johnson – after six seasons with the Titans, the blazing RB makes his debut with the Jets as one of their three-headed monster in the backfield alongside Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.
Notable Returns:
Colts
Reggie Wayne – fresh off a fully-recovered leg injury from 2013, the Colts’ star will return to the field for his first time since October.
Jets
Stephen Hill – two straight years the former 2nd-round pick has finished the season on injured reserve. He has had a very strong camp according to most, but was not listed as the 1st-team WR.
Prediction:
N/A – Preseason is not decided by starters
