Usman Khawaja’s hopes of playing in the 2015 World Cup are over after the batsman reportedly ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during a fielding drill with the Sydney Thunder.
The Queensland batsman had been in good form this season and was targeting a return to the international side.
Reports say the Sydney Thunder staff are still assessing the full extent of the injury, but the Big Bash side have confirmed to AAP that the 27-year-old will be out for an extended period.
Khawaja’s injury will have big ramifications on the Thunder, who have already lost English wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter to a serious eye injury.
