South Africa could be without spinner Imran Tahir for the fourth one-day international against Australia at the MCG after he injured his knee during the Proteas 73-run loss in Canberra on Wednesday.
The leg-spinner did not bat in the loss at Manuka Oval, which left the tourists 2-1 down in the series.
“I think he sprained his knee a little bit,” South Africa skipper AB de Villiers told reporters in Canberra.
“We’ll assess him over the next day and see what he’s like on Thursday night and make the call on the morning of the game.
“I’m not quite sure how serious it is.”
The Proteas are already without its part-time spin option in JP Duminy, who returned to South Africa to receive treatment on a troublesome knee, which he aggravated during the T20 series against Australia.
