After finally earning his shot as an NFL starting QB, Ryan Mallett’s season may be over before he truly gets a chance to prove himself.

Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallett played through Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals with a chest injury that may have been more serious than initially suspected, and could result in season-ending surgery.
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported that Mallett was playing through an injured pectoral muscle he suffered against the Cleveland Browns last week, but may have aggravated it against the Bengals this weekend.
If the MRI shows a tear in Mallett’s pectoral muscle, he could miss several games. The bottom line is that Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely back.

Last week Mallett got his first NFL start against the Browns in a 23-7 win. He threw his first career TD to DE J.J. Watt.
It’s almost as if there’s some sort of curse on Brady’s backups once they leave the team. Matt Cassel, Brian Hoyer, and now Ryan Mallett have all suffered strings of injuries and poor play after incredible debuts in the league.
After two seasons as a full-time starter in Kansas City after spending 2008 as the Patriots starter when Brady was injured, Cassel has been unable to stay consistent or healthy over more than 9 games in the last four seasons.
Hoyer started three games for the Browns in 2013 and went 3-0 in those games, but in the third game he was hit low on a run and suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
