The Miami Dolphins have placed RB Knowshon Moreno on season-ending injured reserve with an ACL injury, the team announced Tuesday.
The former Broncos RB, who signed a one-year deal in Miami worth a little over $1 million in guarantees, was also battling elbow issues this season and played in just three games for the Dolphins. His final two appearances yielded just seven attempts for 14 yards.
Moreno was drafted No. 12 overall by the Denver Broncos out of Georgia in 2009 but struggled to get playing time. After rushing for 947 yards and 7 TDs as a rookie, Moreno fell off the map for the next 3 years, never even reaching 800 yards in a season. In 2013 with QB Peyton Manning dominating teams with his assault on the passing records, Moreno had his breakout season with 1038 yards and a career high 13 TDs total TDs.
The Broncos let Moreno go in free agency but there was little if any market for the former 1st-round draft pick. He eventually signed with the Miami Dolphins but missed a large chunk of preseason with injuries. He was a critical component in the Dolphins 33-20 upset win over the New England Patriots rushing for 134 yards.
