Ohio State Buckeyes star QB J.T. Barrett, a top contender for the Heisman trophy, suffered a serious-looking leg injury in the epic rivalry game with the Michigan Wolverines.
The Buckeyes were leading 28-21 when Barrett ran on 2nd-and-1 at the Ohio State 33 with 14:45 left in the fourth quarter. He was on the field for 3 minutes before his right leg was put into a temporary air cast and he was lifted onto a cart.
Backup QB Cardale Jones came in in relief of Barrett and led the Buckeyes to a TD drive thanks to a run by RB Ezekiel Elliot.
Barrett set the Big Ten conference record for TDs in the first quarter with a TD pass to Nick Vannett, breaking the record held by Purdue QB Drew Brees. With 45 TDs on the season, he is considered one of the top contenders for the Heisman trophy alongside Oregon QB Marcus Mariotta and Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon.
