Arsenal are set to be handed a fitness boost with the news that their captain, Mikel Arteta, should be available for their crucial match with Manchester City.
The Gunners host the Premier League champions on Saturday 13th September, and manager Arsene Wenger believes that is a realistic return date for the Spanish star, who was injured in the Champions League match with Besiktas last week.
Reports in the Daily Mail quote Arteta, who told reporters: Arteta said: “I am trying to work as hard as I can, even when I am resting. I hope to be back for the Man City game and I’ll do everything I can to be there.”
The 32-year-old hurt his ankle in a clash with former Chelsea forward Demba Ba during the first leg of his team’s European qualifier against the Turkish giants, who were belatedly dispatched eight days later at the Emirates Stadium – Alexis Sanchez’s goal taking Arsenal into the Champions League group stages for the seventeenth year in a row.
