Cameroonian striker expected to continue with Russian club until New Year.
Following face-to-face talks with Anzhi owner Suleyman Kerimov, striker Samuel Eto’o may wait until January before moving to either Chelsea or Inter.
The 32-year-old had been expected to leave the Russian club after Kerimov decided to sell all of his star players following a disappointing start to the season.
He intends on investing in the club’s youth academy instead, and is willing to allow the likes of Eto’o, Lassana Diarra and Christopher Samba all leave.
However, after initial speculation suggesting that Eto’o could leave immediately, after a face-to-face meeting between the two it has been reported that he will wait until January before exiting Russia.
According to the Russian press, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the two parties have made a pact that he will remain with Anzhi until January, when the club will then begin to consider offers.
While Inter have been linked with a move to facilitate Eto’o returning to Italy, Jose Mourinho is also reportedly interested in a reunion with striker after their successful spell together in Milan.
Meanwhile, Napoli have also been credited with an interest and are monitoring his situation closely with a view to making an enquiry in the coming weeks.
However, the trio of clubs are likely to be left disappointed for the opening few months of the new season, but will undoubtedly re-ignite their interest over the winter break.
It remains to be seen whether the Nerazzurri are capable of agreeing on the financial aspects of the deal, as while the club look to reduce their wage bill, Eto’o will likely demand a high salary following on from his earnings at Anzhi.
Nevertheless, they will have six months to consider their approach as Eto’o looks likely to continue his Russian adventure until January.
