The switch has been in motion for days, but the 29-year-old finally got the move he wanted after struggling for first team football at the Emirates.
A World Cup winner with Germany, Podolski scored 31 goals in 82 appearances for the Gunners. He joined the club from Bundesliga side Cologne in 2012, but despite being a fan favourite, he was never able to cement his place at the club.
Having made just two starts and 11 substitute appearances so far this season, it seemed inevitable that the clinical finisher would be on his way out of the club.
He may not have been of the quality required to play for Arsenal, but was far too good to be confined to the bench.
