Cameroon striker could return to Milan this summer.
Inter Milan are preparing an offer to bring back former striker Samuel Eto’o, although speculation suggests Chelsea remain in pole position.
The 32-year-old is expected to leave current club Anzhi before the transfer window closes, but it is still unclear as to where he will move to.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Cameroon legend’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, returned from England on Wednesday amid reports that Chelsea remain the favourites to sign him.
While there has yet to be an official bid made for the star, Blues boss Jose Mourinho is arguably waiting for negotiations with Manchester United over Wayne Rooney to first garner a conclusion.
If the England international stays at Old Trafford, it is more than likely Mourinho will eye a reunion with his former striker after their successful spell together at the San Siro.
However, the Nerazzurri have not lost hope in their pursuit to bring him back to Italy, although there are question marks over whether they can compete with Chelsea financially as Eto’o is likely to want to earn something as close as possible to his current salary with Anzhi.
It is understood that the Nerazzurri are studying the situation closely and are putting together a draft proposal of what they can offer both Anzhi and Eto’o.
Coach Walter Mazzarri is likely to see a number of faces head out of Milan in the next fortnight, while he is still keen on bringing in reinforcements ahead of his first season in charge.
Nevertheless, the interest is concrete in Eto’o, the only question is whether or not they can offer their former hero what he is seeking.
