Inter Milan target Chelsea’s Spanish hitman Fernando Torres after missing out on Samuel Eto’o…
Inter Milan have turned their attentions to Chelsea’s 29-year-old forward Fernando Torres, after losing out on Samuel Eto’o to the Blues, reports Italian publication Il Quotitando Sportivo.
Chelsea won the race to sign 32-year-old Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala, and now have four strikers to compete for one position. Mourinho has only ever deployed one up front, and with Eto’o, Torres, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba competing for one spot, it seems as though at least one of them is surplus to requirements.
After missing out on Eto’o, who interestingly played for Chelsea’s new boss Jose Mourinho at the Italian club, Inter will take advantage of the Blues’ striker overload with a move for Torres.
Mourinho chose to start versatile winger Andre Schurrle ahead of Torres in the crucial Premier League tie against Manchester United, and many believed this was the nail in the coffin of Torres’ Chelsea future.
The Spaniard has struggled ever since his £50m British record transfer to Chelsea from Liverpool back in 2011, and could relish the chance to test his ability in Serie A, having already performed admirably in La Liga and the Premier League.
He would likely cost around £15m, but Mourinho may prefer to keep him as a squad option, in what will likely be another long season in multiple competitions for the Blues.
