Brazilian international had previously been linked with switch to Tottenham.
Internacional president Giovanni Luigi has dismissed speculation that Napoli have submitted a bid for striker Leandro Damiao.
The 23-year-old has been linked with the Partenopei as a replacement for the out-going Edinson Cavani, with reports in Italy suggesting that an agreement was close.
The Uruguayan is expected to clinch a move to PSG on Wednesday in a deal worth €63m, and as a result Rafa Benitez is expected to be handed significant funds in order to improve the squad ahead of next season.
While Real Madrid’s Jose Callejon appears to be a certainty, Damiao’s move appears to have hit a bump in the road as Luigi denied knowledge of even receiving a bid from the Serie A giants.
“I have not even received a call,” Luigi told Globo Esporte according to Sky Sports.
Internacional boss Dunga has recently revealed his desire to keep hold of the Brazilian, but it remains to be seen whether the attraction of playing in Europe will see him move on this summer.
However, at this stage it is unclear as to Napoli’s position on the situation, with La Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting earlier this week that they were on the verge of sealing an agreement with both the club and player.
The pink paper reported that an official announcement was perhaps days away, but that seems to be an optimistic outlook as Luigi denies even speaking with anyone over the striker’s future.
As a result, there is a general hope that once Cavani moves on, the search for a replacement will become clearer and the Partenopei can move quickly as fans eagerly await a big name arrival.
