Manchester City
Manuel Pellegrini will be left to rue his luck as Manchester City suffered huge blows to their Premier League title challenge.
Sergio Aguero injured his hamstring on duty for Argentina and has been diagnosed with a grade two tear which could keep him sidelined for around a month.
In addition, David Silva sprained his right ankle which will rule him out of action for up to three weeks, but fortunately Vincent Kompany escaped any issues after playing for an hour for Belgium before being substituted having previously struggled with an injury problem.
Pellegrini will take some comfort from Kevin De Bruyne’s impressive form, and the Belgian continued his goalscoring run with this stunning free kick on Tuesday night.
Manchester United
Louis van Gaal will be pleased with David de Gea’s form as he produced some stunning saves in Spain’s win over Ukraine, while Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin featured in France’s win over Denmark.
However, there will be no place for Daley Blind or Memphis Depay at Euro 2016, as the pair crashed out with the Netherlands losing 3-2 to the Czech Republic.
Bastian Schweinsteiger picked up an injury but Germany boss Joachim Low doesn’t expect him to be absent against Everton, while Matteo Darmian scored his first goal for Italy as the Azzurri sealed qualification for Euro 2016 with back-to-back wins.
Other notable performances came from Ross Barkley who scored for England against Lithuania, Southampton’s Graziano Pelle netted for Italy while Newcastle United’s season went from bad to worse with the news that Tim Krul suffered a season-ending cruciate knee ligament injury.
