The most consistent team in the tournament, the Kings XI Punjab, will face the team that have peaked at the right time, Kolkata Knight Riders, in the final of IPL 2014 to be played at Bengaluru today.
The wicket at Bengaluru is usually a batting paradise, which will tip the scales in favour of the explosive Punjab side slightly, but KKR have the rare distinction of beating Punjab twice in three games so far in this tournament, which would give Gautam Gambhir’s team enough confidence going into the big game.
Kings XI Punjab are in their first final in 7 seasons in the IPL, and they will do well to keep playing in the fearless manner that has given them so much success in this tournament.
Virender Sehwag’s explosive century against Chennai in qualifier 2 makes him one to watch out for in Punjab’s batting line up, which also boasts of many other fierce hitters in Glenn Maxwell, David Miller and Manan Vohra.
KKR’s batting is led from the front by the Orange Cap holder Robin Uthappa, who has thrived in the second half of the tournament, while the rest of the team’s batting has done well as a collective unit with several players making decent contributions.
KKR’s bowling is their main strength as they have two genuine wicket takers in Morne Morkel and Sunil Narine, who could give the men in purple and gold a slight edge on what is expected to be another batting belter at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
The toss is usually crucial in Bangalore with the results skewed in favour of sides batting second, and like always the team that handles the pressure of the final best could come out on top eventually.
