If ever there was a player chomping at the bit to get into a Brisbane Heat shirt and wreak some carnage at the ‘Gabbatoir’, it was Ben Cutting.
The aggressive fast bowler was one of the first signings for the Heat and did all of the lead-up to the inaugural Big Bash League, only to miss the entire season due to injury.
He made up for it in BBL|02, taking 13 wickets in eight games, including two three-wicket hauls.
Cutting’s power-hitting ability was also on display as he developed into a complete package for the team in teal.
The 26-year-old paceman made up for some of the disappointment of missing the Queensland Bulls’ Shield win in 2011-12 by playing in the Heat’s inaugural grand final win over Perth.
His outstanding form in the BBL helped procure an ODI and T20 debut for Australia, which built on his efforts that saw him claim the Ian Healy Trophy as the Bulls Player of the Year the previous summer.
