The IPL 7 tournament is less than a month away, but before that there is the matter of the 2014 Auction to see who will be playing for the eight franchises.
Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad will all be looking to land 514 of the world’s best players.
It’s one of the biggest auctions the IPL has ever seen as each franchise was only allowed to retain a maximum of five players, with Delhi not keeping hold of a single one.
Here’s a list of the players that have been retained:
Chennai Super Kings: R Ashwin, Dwayne Bravo, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina.
Delhi Daredevils: None.
Kings XI Punjab: David Miller, Manan Vohra.
Kolkata Knight Riders: Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Narine.
Mumbai Indians: Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh.
Rajasthan Royals: Stuart Binny, James Faulkner, Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson, Shane Watson.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Shikhar Dhawan, Dale Steyn.
Some key names to watch out for in the auction are recently sacked England batsman Kevin Pietersen, 2013/14 Ashes Man of the Series Mitchell Johnson and Indian veteran Yusuf Pathan.
Each franchise must have at least 16 players in the squad and no more than 27 when the auction is concluded, with a maximum of nine non-Indian members and only four overseas stars allowed in the starting XI.
