The veteran striker scored in a recent friendly against Barcelona.
Selangor head coach Irfan Bakti wants Mohd Amri Yahyah to replicate his goalscoring form for the Malaysian national team at club level.
The 32-year-old’s performance and goal for the Malayan Tigers in a recently friendly against Spanish giants Barcelona left his manager impressed at what Amri can still manage on the field.
Ifran now wants the veteran striker to provide the same service for the Red Giants and fulfil “Mission 33” by firing them to Malaysia Cup glory for the first time since 2005.
“Of course I am proud to see Amri score against one of the best clubs in the world,” Goal Malaysia report him as saying.
“I hope he can continue the momentum for Selangor and forget his success with the national team.
“I want him to stay focused and play as a team when we meet Johor FA at Pasir Gudang this Tuesday.”
Failure to even challenge for the trophy in the last two seasons has left Ifran determined to bring it back to the Shah Alam Stadium this year.
“Our target is the final and lifting the trophy because this is our responsibility as a team and I have full confidence that we can make it,” he said on Thursday.
