The MPL runners-up are currently second in Group A.
Sime Darby FC coach Ismail Zakaria has warned his side that they are not assured of progression to the Malaysia Cup quarterfinal stage.
Zakaria’s side are currently performing way above pre-tournament expectations and are currently second in Group A behind ATM, but are ahead of Johor FA and rock bottom Selangor with two matches left to play.
However, after watching Sime struggle to overcome the Red Giants on Saturday, with whom they drew 1-1 with on Saturday after being rescued by Karlo Primorac’s late goal, he has warned the players not to let complacency become an issue.
“ATM and Johor still have a chance to make it,” Goal report him as telling Sinar Harian.
“Both teams are dangerous for us because anything can happen since we all want to reach the next stage.”
Sime’s next match is a trip to leaders Johor on September 17 before they host ATM four days later with Zakaria eager to secure maximum points from both games to ensure they reach the knock-out round.
It would be a vast improvement on their 2012 Malaysia Cup campaign in which they crashed out after finishing bottom of Group C after managing to win just one of their six matches.
