Arsenal have been linked to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema for a long time, but their pursuit of the star was reported to be slowing down.
However, Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli claims that Arsenal’s hopes of signing the Frenchman are still very alive.
According to Giulianelli, the Gunners have bid £45m.
Giulianelli spread word of this supposedly imminent transfer deal on Twitter.
Benzema deal is on: best offer is from Arsenal, £45mln. They will take a decision soon. He wants to reach Wenger.

However, it may be hard for some to believe Giulianelli’s claims, as the Gunners have also been linked to a similar deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
Benzema is being considered a prime target for Arsenal though, due to their need for a striker to take pressure off Alexis Sanchez and give the Gunners an improved scoring attack.
The 27-year-old striker has notched 133 goals in his last six seasons, which have all been spent at the Bernabeu.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal would break their transfer fee record if they sign Benzema.
Their current transfer record deal was completed with Real Madrid for midfielder Mesut Ozil for £42m.
