The A-League club’s marquee player starts his second year with the Sky Blues.
Sydney FC have been given a boost ahead of the new A-League season after Alessandro Del Piero returned to training.
Del Piero, who is currently Italy’s fourth all-time leading goalscorer, joined up with his team-mates for the first time this summer in Japan where they will take on Sagan Tosu at the Best Amenity Stadium on Wednesday night.
The 38-year-old former Juventus attacker is entering his second season as a Sky Blue after scoring 14 goals in 24 games in his debut campaign and defender Seb Ryall revealed the squad’s delight at seeing Del Piero back in Sydney colours
“It was good to see him,” Ryall told Football Australia.
“He’s a legend in the game and everyone’s happy to see him back at Sydney FC.”
Del Piero joined Sydney in September last year after 19-years at Juventus and is the highest paid player in the history of the A-League with a salary of $2 million after agreeing to extend his stay in Australia for another year.
Another late arrival to the party in Japan will be Nick Carle after the 32-year-old former Crystal Palace attacking midfielder missed Monday’s flight due to illness.
