Gunners ace talks up title credentials.
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has warned the club’s Premier League rivals that they are ready for a title challenge this season, according to The Sun.
The England international starred in Arsenal’s 3-0 demolition of Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday after being lambasted by the press for being pictured smoking again whilst in Las Vegas last month.
“The message we wanted to send out was ‘we’re ready’. It is the biggest game of pre-season and we passed the test,” he said.
“Just because we beat the champions doesn’t mean we will be champions because it doesn’t work like that. But we are ready.”
The 22-year-old apologised for the ‘unacceptable’ pictures of him from his American adventure, which is the second time he’s been caught smoking this year.
But he added: “We have got a great team ethic here and I hope we can take that into the season.”
Arsene Wenger was also pleased with his side’s ability to chalk up their second piece of silverware in the space of a calendar year by saying; “Two things were important today — to win a trophy and to play well.
“And I am very happy because we played some very good football.”
