Arsenal are reportedly set to double Jack Wilshere’s weekly wage in an attempt to end Manchester City’s interest in signing the England midfielder.
Premier League runners-up City are desperate to add homegrown players to their squad, and Wilshere is said to be towards the top of their most-wanted list, alongside Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling and Aston Villa’s Fabian Delph.
However, The Mirror claim that Arsenal have no intention of losing Wilshere and are preparing to offer him a new five-year contract, worth £100,000 a week.
Wilshere, whose current deal, which has three years left to run on it, is understood to include a weekly wage in the region of £50,000 per week, would earn £26m if he were to stay with the Gunners on the new proposed terms.
