The Gunners and England midfield dynamo says he is happy at Arsenal, so long as Wenger is still the man in charge.
Arsene Wenger has had his fair share of critics this summer, but one Arsenal figure who is universally loved by Arsenal fans is their England international midfielder Jack Wilshere.
Wilshere has spoken out over the recent scrutiny over Wenger’s tenability. In fact, he feels so strongly that he indicated he could even leave Arsenal should the Frenchman be shown the door.
ITV quote Wilshere as saying, “I want to win things with Arsenal and I want to be there in the future, but if the boss leaves then things could change.
Wilshere even underlined his commitment to Wenger and Arsenal by signed a new long-term contract in December of 2012: “Arsenal are always in my heart and by signing a deal for the next five years shows my commitment to them and their commitment to me so at the moment everything is good.
“Arsene Wenger has been there for so many years and he’s always delivered trophies.
“OK we’ve had a little dip in the last five or six years, but he’s a great manager and people who question his ability are ridiculous.
“He’s qualified for the Champions League for 16 years so I think he’s the right man for the job.”
The majority of the pressure on the Arsenal manager has been in relation to his seeming inability to bring in any new players to the Emirates.
Whilst Arsenal’s key starting XI did a fantastic job of securing the all-important fourth Champions League spot last season, Wenger has released several squad players this summer without signing any replacements.
As a result, Arsenal were left with a lack of options during their surprise 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
Fans are worried that the impressive strengthening of both league and local rivals Tottenham Hotspur, combined with the continued big-spending at second and third placed Manchester City and Chelsea, could mean their side gets left behind this season. It would seem that the players, or at least Jack Wilshere, are still firmly behind Arsene Wenger.
