Australian pace bowling stocks take another hit.
Australia’s fast bowlers continue to drop like flies with news Jackson Bird has flown home due to a flare-up of a reoccurring back complaint.
The news comes on the back of James Pattinson’s back injury which saw his tour cut short, and Pat Cummins continues to struggle to stay fit with issues of his own.
It continues a history of ongoing injury problems with Australia’s fast bowlers with seven, at one stage, unavailable at different points last summer.
Bird was sent home from the tour of India in March with stress fractures.
Pattinson has been suffering back problems from the age of 16 while Cummins will miss his third summer in a row with stress fractures.
Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Bird had lower back pain over the past week following his only Test of the tour at Chester-le-Street.
