23-year old responds to anonymous coach who labelled him ‘Blame Gabbert’.
Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has reacted angrily to the comments that were made by an anonymous team coach about his temperament, and the player feels trust has been squandered.
Gabbert was responding to to comments made by a coach earlier this month, who told reporters that ‘nothing was ever his fault’ and ever went on to nickname him ‘Blame Gabbert’.
On Wednesday, the third year pro had a chance to respond to the comments made about him in an interview with Jaguars.com.
“It pissed me off quite a bit, just because you learn to trust your coaches because you spend so much time with them,” Gabbert said.
“That’s starting now. April 2 through whenever your last game is, you’re with them countless hours every day, six or seven days a week.
“You learn to value their opinion, trust it. It’s a close-knit grip. When you have an anonymous source saying something that couldn’t be further from the truth, it p*sses me off.
“Like I always said, ‘Put your name on it.’ If you’re going to say something to the media, say it to me. Say who said it. No need to hide behind a computer screen or an anonymous source name when you’re trying to make a point.”
The comments made clearly show the frustration that Gabbert feels about the whole situation, and will not help his confidence that is already low after a torrid start to his NFL career.
With media reports constantly linking other Quarterbacks and draft prospects with the team, it can do nothing but dent the confidence of a young player, who has not been dealt a good hand himself by the lack of receiving talent during his time with the Jaguars.
