Offensive tackle will become key part of St Louis’ offensive fortunes.
Offensive tackle Jake Long is currently under going a medical exam in St. Louis, ahead of this free agent move, according to NFL.com.
The left tackle was taken number one overall by the Miami Dolphins in 2008, two picks ahead of Quarterback Matt Ryan, and while starting well, injuries over the last two years have left doubts over his durability.
St Louis need a huge amount of help on the offensive line, and this is the main reason as to why their third year Quarterback Sam Bradford either keeps getting injured or is left running for his life as the guys in front of him fail to protect him.
If Jake Long passes this medical, and can return to his early league form, then it could be the start of a new era for the lacklustre offence – especially in a division that is loaded with strong defensive units in San Francisco, Seattle and Arizona.
While signing Long is not going to solve all the problems instantly, the appeal for other linemen to join the Rams due to having the opportunity to play with Long could be a big factor in future years.
Another strong draft from head coach Jeff Fisher, and as a result, this team can be right in the mix for an NFC wild card spot.
