Jets defender ready for something new
Former Dutch International Kew Jaliens is looking forward to the challenge of A-League football this season.
After spending the majority of his career in Holland, the 34-year-old is ready for pastures new.
Speaking to Football Australia Jaliens said he was particularly excited by the prospect of working with such a young side.
“It’s a challenge for me to join a young team that is on the road to wanting to win something and wanting to perform – for me, (coming to Newcastle) was more about the challenge.
“I see that everybody is encouraging each other, there is a positive spirit and that is the basic thing to have success and have good results, so for now, I have a good feeling.”
Before joining the Jets, the defender did his homework speaking to several of his countryman who had previous A-League experience. What he heard was very endearing.
“When I got the opportunity (to come to Newcastle), from the start, it was a serious option for me.
“I spoke to Brett Holman and Eli (Babalj) who has just joined AZ Alkmaar and I spoke to Gerald Sibon who is now an assistant coach at AZ.
“I pretty much had some good information about the league and some players and it was all positive.”
