James Milner scored 23 goals and produced buckets of sweat during his Aston Villa career as he won the hearts of fans in the Midlands.
However, Milner’s popularity among Villa fans took a hit 50 seconds after kickoff in today’s Premier League match at Anfield.

Within the first minute of Liverpool’s game against Villa, Milner beat Brad Guzan with a curling effort from outside the penalty area.
It was his first senior goal for the Reds, although he scored three times during pre-season.
Milner hit the net 18 times in five years for former club Manchester City, whom he joined from Villa in 2010.
However, there is so much more to the 29-year-old’s game than scoring goals.
After winning their opening two games, Liverpool had slipped down to 13th in the table before this match, with just eight points from their first six outings.

A win today could see Liverpool move as high 6th in the table, but a loss could easily see them drop into the bottom five.
Milner’s early goal will have ruined Tim Sherwood’s tactics for the game. He surely would have wanted to keep Liverpool quiet in the opening twenty minutes to try and silence the famous home support at Anfield.
