El Tri manager Miguel Herrera insists that the Gold Cup will be extremely important since the stakes are high.
If Mexico wins the Gold Cup, they will earn an opportunity to play the United States in a playoff for a spot in the Confederations Cup, which will take place in Russia in 2017.
Other players who were named to the Gold Cup squad and will look to vault Mexico to glory include Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela.
Malaga goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and Villarreal players Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos are also included among the notable players to make the roster.
Ochoa also starred for Mexico in the 2014 World Cup as their starting goalie, and they made it to the Round of 16 before falling in a narrow loss to Brazil.
