Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro takes on Jesse Levine of Canada today in the second round of Wimbledon.
The 8th seed Argentine will be licking his lips after seeing so many big names exit the competition, either through injury or surprise defeats.
Having only won one Grand Slam, the US Open in 2009, Del Potro will be hoping this is his year as world number three Rafael Nadal and last year’s winner Roger Federer both suffered shock defeats in the early rounds.
Del Potro saw decent success on the All England club’s grass courts last year at the Olympics, winning the bronze medal, but has never made it past the fourth round of Wimbledon.
Today he is up against Jesse Levine, a Canadian who is 107th in the world. The left-hander progressed through his first round match after his opponent, Guido Pella, had to pull out in the fifth set due to a hamstring injury. Levine has never made it past the third round of a Grand Slam.
Del Potro defeated Spaniard Albert Ramos in straight sets in his first round, and showed some good form ahead of this tournament.
This two players have met twice before, with “Delpo” coming out on top in both occasions.
