Although Chelsea have not been particularly active in this summer’s transfer window, they have been on the hunt for Everton defender John Stones.
However, Blues manager Jose Mourinho claimed that they are not going to make a third bid for the 21-year-old defender, according to the Daily Express.
“I don’t speak about players from other clubs, especially now competition starts,” Mourinho added after saying no to a third bid.
Chelsea have already their first two bids, which were worth £20m and £26m respectively, rejected by Everton, and Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that the star defender is not for sale.
However, Martinez has reportedly indicated that he would consider offers over £30m, which would mark a new British transfer record for a defender
Everton are now believed to be searching for a centre-back to possibly replace Stones, with Celtic’s Virgil van Dijk and Swansea City captain Ashley Williams supposedly on their shortlist.
