Everton defender John Stones continues to be heavily linked to Chelsea, and the Premier League champions have offered up to £26m for him.
According to The Metro, the Toffees are already planning for life without the 21-year-old, as they are now targeting Swansea City’s Ashley Williams.
Everton will not likely make any move for the Swans captain if Stones stays, though.
This may be the case, as the Toffees have played hardball with Chelsea by rejecting their first two offers. However, Jose Mourinho is thought to be planning a £34m follow-up bid.
Swansea manager Garry Monk has as firm a stance on Williams’ future as Everton do over Stones.
“Ash will be here. He’ll be here with Swansea,” Monk said.
Williams would be a major loss for Swansea as he offers extraordinary leadership – he also serves as skipper for the Wales national team.
