The Portuguese tactician was speaking to the assembled media in his post-match press conference, as reported by Sky Sports, and was clearly disappointed with suffering another defeat.
However, he did insist that he was relatively pleased with the performance in general, as he received the reaction from the players that he had been hoping for after their 2-2 draw with Newcastle at the weekend.
Chelsea have struggled for consistency so far this season with their domestic form leaving them in 14th place in the Premier League and eight points adrift of current leaders Manchester United.
Having swept aside Maccabi Tel Aviv in their Champions League opener, things appeared to be going more smoothly in Europe, but the former Porto boss experienced an unhappy return to his homeland with his side also guilty of missing some golden scoring opportunities to put the game away.
Nevertheless, he will be keen to regroup and focus his players on Southampton this weekend, with the reigning champions needing a positive result to boost their morale and confidence.
