Chelsea edge closer to Jose Mourinho capture as PSG set to move for Rafa Benitez.
An incredible managerial merry-go-round looks set to be on the cards this summer as Chelsea interim boss Rafa Benitez becomes the latest name to be linked with the Paris Saint-Germain job by the Daily Mirror.
With Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho strongly hinting after his team were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Borussia Dortmund that he could return to Stamford Bridge, and current PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti set to move to the Spanish capital to replace the Special One, the three men could each take charge of the others’ clubs in one fell swoop.
Even more remarkably, all three of Mourinho, Ancelotti and Benitez have each been Chelsea manager within the last five years.
Benitez’s exit from Stamford Bridge will leave more questions than answers.
The Spaniard is undoubtedly a great manager – anyone who can win the UEFA Champions League with Djimi Traore must be.
However, because of comments both made by him and attributed to him in advance of his appointment by a Czech teenager, he has never earned the approval of the fans at Stamford Bridge.
With any other head coach, it is fair to assume that support would have been unconditionally granted from the beginning of their tenure.
Should Benitez accept the PSG job, the Ligue 1 champions elect will receive a master tactician with a brilliant CV – as will Real Madrid should Ancelotti move there.
Chelsea fans hope to welcome back a hero of their recent history in Jose Mourinho.
