Modric linked with return to Premier League with Mourinho.
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly told midfielder Luka Modric that he wants him to join him at Chelsea this summer.
The Portuguese tactician has confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season after a relatively successful stint in charge, and is strongly linked with a return to Chelsea.
According to The Sun, he hopes his Croatian playmaker will join him at Stamford Bridge and is ready to bid anything up to £30m to land the former Tottenham star.
Mourinho is a big fan of the 27-year-old, having paid around the same amount to prize him away from White Hart Lane less than a year ago with fierce competition from several top clubs from around Europe.
After an impressive spell in north London, Modric had been linked with a move to Chelsea prior to his switch to Spain, but the Blues had two bids rejected ahead of his eventual sale to Madrid.
Mourinho is keen to ensure he remains a part of his playing squad moving forward, and the two may well be re-united at the Bridge next season.
However, Modric wasn’t as effective in Spain as he managed just three goals in 31 games with his general performance level seeing him voted La Liga’s worst signing of 2012.
He will most likely be sacrificed as the club look to make funds available to Mourinho’s successor, but reports suggest the Croatian international will be given the chance to start again in England.
