Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that he hopes goalkeeper Petr Cech will reject any offers of a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, but admitted that the experienced stopper is disappointed after he was dropped for the Blues’ opening Premier League victory at Burnley.
Cech found himself in the alien position of the Chelsea bench for an enthralling game at Turf Moor, with Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois finally given his debut for the club after spending three years out loan with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
The increased competition has led to rumours this summer that clubs such as Paris Saint Germain and AS Monaco are interested in signing Cech, but Mourinho hopes that he will stay at Stamford Bridge:
“I hope he doesn’t want to go and I hope he doesn’t have offers to go and if he does have offers he refuses to go.”
Courtois, however, showed little indication that he will allow Cech back in with a commanding display against Sean Dyche’s Clarets.
