Portuguese could be out of a job in the Spanish capital sooner than expected.
Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho could make a dramatic return to his former club Chelsea, and potentially even before the end of the current season, according to reports in the Daily Star.
The self-styled ‘Special One’ is at present enduring a tough campaign in the Spanish capital, where Madrid trail arch rivals FC Barcelona by a whopping 13 points and so consequently look more than unlikely to retain their La Liga crown this season.
And, with the Spanish giants also facing a tough looking Champions League fixture with runaway Premier League leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, with the last-16 clash delicately poised at 1-1 following the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu three weeks ago, defeat at Old Trafford could mean that the Portuguese is relieved of his duties at Madrid before this campaign is even finished.
However, such a scenario would then raise the possibility of Mourinho being free to take over the reins from ‘interim’ Chelsea head coach Rafa Benitez at Stamford Bridge, where the Spaniard is struggling with results, while also being deeply unpopular with the Chelsea supporters following his time at the helm of rivals Liverpool.
