Portuguese wants Los Blancos midfielder as first Stamford Bridge signing.
Jose Mourinho wants to bring Sami Khedira with him from Real Madrid to Chelsea, reports the Daily Mirror.
The German international has been with Real since 2010 and would cost the Blues around £20m.
Mourinho, who is widely expected to leave the Santiago Bernabeu and return to Stamford Bridge this summer, has identified Chelsea’s soft centre as in the most need of reinforcement.
The Portuguese made a similar signing in his first spell in west London, bringing in Real’s enforcer Calude Makelele to Chelsea.
The Frenchman went on to become a cult figure at the club, with many commentators rebranding the defensive midfield position ‘the Makelele role’.
Former Stuttgart midfielder Khedira has not been a mainstay in the Real Madrid side this season, starting just 18 La Liga matches for the club, scoring twice.
Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday guaranteed the club Champions League football for next season.
