Speaking in his press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the Champions League, as reported by Sky Sports, the Portuguese tactician was in a more optimistic mood than usual after cutting a dejected figure in recent weeks after also receiving multiple FA charges, as noted by BBC Sport.
After a disappointing start to the campaign, which has left them languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table after 13 games, Mourinho saw his side return from the international break and secure a 1-0 win over Norwich City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
While many will argue that it wasn’t an impressive result against a side that Chelsea would have been expected to beat, given their struggles so far this season, it is certainly a result that the reigning Premier League champions can build on in their bid to get back on track.
They will have the opportunity to build some momentum when they take on Maccabi Tel-Aviv, as they are unsurprisingly strong favourites to return home with all three points.
Chelsea are currently in second place in Group G as they trail leaders Porto by three points, while Dynamo Kiev are continuing to put pressure on them as they remain just two points adrift of second place.
As a result, Tuesday’s encounter in Israel will be crucial for the Blues in their bid to take another step closer to qualification for the knockout stages, and Mourinho seems happy with the level of confidence within the squad at this stage.
Although a difficult encounter with Tottenham awaits when they return to domestic action on the weekend, the focus will be on their next opponents and a victory would certainly be another step in the right direction as Chelsea look to salvage their season and achieve as much success as possible.
