Romelu Lukaku could still stay at Chelsea this season, with the Sun reporting that manager Jose Mourinho is ready to give the youngster a chance to shine.
The 21-year-old has been attracting plenty of interest from top clubs around Europe in recent times, having caught the eye with two impressive seasons out on loan, first at West Bromwich Albion and then at Everton last season.
The young striker was also part of Belgium’s World Cup squad this summer, scoring one goal in Brazil, and his exciting ability and potential have not gone unnoticed, though he has struggled to break into the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge.
However, he may now be set for one final chance to impress this term, with Mourinho possibly set to block the player’s proposed move to Everton on a permanent deal and use him upfront instead of making new signings in that position.
Diego Costa has already been brought in from Atletico Madrid for around £32m, and it had been suggested that further new purchases could follow, with Demba Ba leaving for Besiktas and Samuel Eto’o not being given a new contract.
Still, Lukaku now looks like being Chelsea’s solution in that area, and the powerful forward will be hoping to take this opportunity to impress.
