The Colombian international had been linked with a move to Manchester United following an impressive showing at the World Cup, but opted to stay in Tuscany where he penned a five-year extension in October.
However, his new deal saw a £26.8m release clause included, and with Chelsea on the hunt for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, Jose Mourinho has been prompted into action to beat his transfer rivals to his signature.
Cuadrado was reportedly in the stands to witness the Blues hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, but Mourinho claims to have been unaware of his attendance.
