Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho set to give Juan Mata a rare opportunity to impress in Capital One tie.
Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata has rarely featured this season, but will be handed a chance to impress against the mighty Swindon Town in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.
The diminutive Spain international has been voted the Blues’ player of the year in each of the last two campaigns, with an incredible 19 goals and 35 assists last season, but has failed to impress Jose Mourinho so far in the Special One’s second stint at Stamford Bridge.
With Oscar preferred in the number ten role, Mata is competing for a place on the wing with the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne, Andre Schurrle and Willian.
It can be reasonably expected that two from those five will play against Swindon in the Capital One Cup – such is Chelsea’s strength in depth.
Perhaps Mata will be able to prove a point to Mourinho – otherwise talk of an exit will continue until the January transfer window opens.
