The brilliant Borussia Dortmund manager turned down monster offers…
Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp claims he turned down the advances of Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City last season, reports the Mirror.
Klopp has led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles in the past three seasons, and reached the Champions League final last term, too.
“There were some England clubs that called and wanted to speak with me, but there was no reason to talk,” Klopp admitted.
The charismatic manager has impressed clubs around Europe by building a brilliant footballing side on a shoestring budget. Players like Nuri Sahin, Shinji Kagawa, Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski, Matts Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan have flourished under Klopp’s guidance. Both Chelsea and City hired new managers this summer, eventually securing Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini respectively, but it appears they were second choice targets behind Klopp.
Klopp has promised that he is happy at the Bundesliga club, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be managing in the Premier League any time soon.
“I’m sure you could earn much more money at an English club, or at a Chinese or Russian club. But it’s not the most important thing,” Klopp continued.
“In life you have to be at the right place at the right moment. I am in Dortmund with all I have. Definitely for the next couple of years.”
