Serie A champions Juventus are lining up a shock move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho, according to the Telegraph, with the Old Lady making contingency plans ahead of Arturo Vidal’s possible move to Manchester United.
Paulinho arrived at White Hart Lane from Brazilian club Corinthians last summer accompanied by a degree of fanfare, but struggled to perform adequately over the course of the season as few of Tottenham’s big-money signings managed to acclimatise to life in the Premier League.
The report suggests that Juventus are set to offer £20 million for Paulinho, a fee that would represent a small profit for Spurs on the fee that they paid to Corinthians – although it also seems that notoriously thrifty Tottenham chairman would want at least £25m before he considered allowing the Brazilian to leave.
Paulinho has suffered a disappointing 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign with the rest of his international teammates, with the Selecao having crashed out in the semi-final stage with a 7-1 defeat to Germany before being pummelled 3-0 against the Netherlands in the third place play-off.
The 25 year-old midfielder, known for his late runs into the box and ability to score goals, has enjoyed a surprisingly diverse career, having plied his trade in Lithuania and Poland as well as his native Brazil.
