Their bullpen has been nearly flawless with a 0.99 earned run average, but they suffered a major blow as closer Greg Holland suffered a strained pectoral muscle.
This forced the Royals to place him on the 15-day disabled list, so they will likely turn to either setup man Wade Davis or seventh-inning man Kelvin Herrera for closing duties while Holland heals up.
Holland has four saves this season and was on track to reach 40 once again, but his time off will make it difficult to achieve that milestone again.
However, Holland should be able to easily reach 30 once again assuming he returns soon. He has logged 93 saves in the last two seasons, and all four of his saves this season have been in scoreless innings.
The Royals’ bats have come alive this season though, so losing Holland should not affect the Royals too badly as long as he returns healthy soon.
