Japanese international expected to join in January if not sooner.
CSKA Moscow ace Keisuke Honda has revealed that he still hopes to join AC Milan, and hinted that he isn’t interested in joining any other club.
The 27-year-old has been a target of the Serie A giants for the entire summer, but they have been unable to reach an agreement with his current employers over a transfer fee.
It has been reported that Honda has already agreed on personal terms, and will therefore join the Rossoneri on a free transfer in January with his contract set to expire in December.
However, in order to have him available for the Champions League, Milan vice-President Adriano Galliani is keen to sign him before the season starts but his efforts have been scuppered by CSKA who are unwilling to negotiate the asking price.
It has been claimed that other clubs are still monitoring Honda, but it is clear that the Japanese playmaker is set on a move to San Siro and will hope that the two clubs can come to an agreement over the course of the next two weeks.
“I haven’t received any offers from PSG,” he told Le10Sport as reported by Football Italia. “It is a great club with a great project.
“Milan remains my favourite team, and if possible, I would like to wear their shirt,” he added.
It is believed that Milan will return with an improved bid should they reach the group stages of the Champions League, with the second leg of their qualifier against PSV taking place on Wednesday.
With on-going interest in Fiorentina’s Adem Ljajic too, it remains to be seen who the Rossoneri make a priority as they hope to reinforce the squad ahead of a long campaign.
