The county’s head coach Ashley Giles quashed speculation in regards to Pietersen, saying that the arrivals of Ashwell Prince and Alviro Petersen left no room for the 34-year-old.
“It won’t be happening,” Giles is quoted as saying in the Manchester Evening News.
“We have two overseas (Kolpak) batsmen already coming in – Ashwell Prince and Alviro Petersen – and we need to give opportunities to our youngsters as well.
“We need to give exposure to some of our other players such as Karl Brown and Liam Livingstone.”
Pietersen is seeking a return to English domestic cricket after incoming EBC chairman Colin Graves hinted that the door was still ajar for the star batsman to make a return to the England Test side.
However, the South Africa-born player would have to tone down commitments in both the Indian and Caribbean T20 Premier Leagues.
